In-house digital X-ray imaging at Physical Medicine Health Center in Tampa

What in-house X-ray imaging is

We take digital X-rays in-house, on the same visit when your exam indicates them, rather than sending you offsite to a separate imaging center. X-rays show alignment, degeneration, fractures, and other bone-related findings that help confirm what's driving your pain and inform your treatment plan. Not every visit needs an X-ray; we take them when the exam findings call for it, not as a routine add-on.

When it's used

In-house X-rays commonly support evaluation for:

  • Back pain and neck pain: checking alignment and degenerative changes
  • Hip pain, when a joint-level issue is suspected
  • Sciatica and disc-related pain: an initial step before deciding whether MRI is needed
  • Auto injury and sports or work injury evaluations, when trauma is involved

What to expect

If your exam indicates imaging, X-rays are taken the same visit, no separate appointment or offsite trip required. Images are read the same day, so we can walk through the findings with you and explain how they inform your plan before you leave. When we need to see soft tissue like a disc or nerve directly, or when X-ray findings don't explain your symptoms, we'll refer you for an MRI.

Frequently asked questions

Will I need an X-ray at my first visit?
It depends on your exam. We take X-rays in-house when the findings indicate them, not as a routine step for every patient.
How is an X-ray different from an MRI?
X-rays show bone alignment, degeneration, and fractures. MRI shows soft tissue like discs and nerves directly. We refer for MRI when X-ray findings don't fully explain your symptoms or we need to see soft tissue.
Do I need to go to a separate radiology center?
No. X-rays are taken and read in-house during your visit, so there's no separate appointment or extra trip.
How quickly will I get my X-ray results?
Images are read the same day, so we can typically walk through the findings with you before you leave your visit.
Is X-ray imaging safe?
Digital X-ray imaging uses a low dose of radiation and is a standard, widely used diagnostic tool. We only take images when your exam indicates they're needed.

Key takeaway: In-house digital X-rays are taken and read the same visit when your exam indicates them, supporting evaluation of back pain, neck pain, hip pain, sciatica, disc issues, and injury cases without a separate radiology trip.
